Professional Development Exchange (PDE)

The Professional Development Exchange program is a Rotary Tasmania initiative that replaces the former Rotary Foundation supported Group Study Exchange program but with a more active professional/business development emphasis.

A unique professional and cultural exchange opportunity for business people and professionals between the ages of 25 and 40 who are in the early stages of their careers.

Professional Development Study Tour - 2024

2024 TOUR - Media, Promotions and Marketing to New York

The program will provide partial funding for exchange visits of three weeks between Tasmania and New York  District 7230, which is located in the City of New York. The tour has many benefits especially  for developing professional and personal relationships, and to exchange ideas. They will also experience the history, geography, institutions, culture and the way of life of the host country. The team will be led by an experienced Rotarian selected from Rotary club nominations. Team members could come from corporations, small businesses and government organisation

The tour will be up to three weeks for four Tasmanians learning about how professionals in NY go about their business using introductions from Rotarians from District 7230.

You should apply because The program is designed to have an invaluable impact on the career of a young professional in the increasingly global workplace by developing skills, creating networking opportunities and lifelong friendships. Individuals who participate in this rewarding once in a lifetime experience will return home with broadened cultural perspective and new understanding of New Yorks history, commerce and government. This program offers a unique opportunity to develop leadership skills, work on team building, and increase self-confidence.

Who is Eligible? Professional Development Exchange participant should be:
▪ Between the ages of 20 and 40
▪ Be fully employed with at least two years of work experience in either media, marketing or related enterprises.
▪ Be personable, articulate, cooperative, motivated team players, and enthusiastic about their professions.

What’s expected of you:
▪ Be open to new experiences,
▪ Be willing to meet new people,
▪ Give presentations at meetings about yourself, your region and your profession,
▪ Be willing to have long travel days,
▪ Be open to an experience that can be life changing.

What is Required of Me?

Before Leaving:
▪ Participate in orientation sessions, group meetings, vocational program development and obtain the necessary documents for travel.

During the Exchange:
▪ Accept the directions of the Rotarian team leader
▪ Fulfill any requirements to speak at Rotary host district gatherings
▪ Remain with the group throughout the exchange visit except when individual activities are planned
▪ Maintain standards of behaviour that reflect positively on Rotary and Australia
▪ Have sufficient funds to meet personal and incidental expenses.

After Returning:
▪ Participate in post-exchange debriefing
▪ Submit a report of the exchange visit
▪ Speak about your experience to Rotary clubs and other groups as required.

Please contact our Vocational Director for more information or fill out the Application form below and submit an Expression of Interest stating your eligibility and reason for undertaking additional training in this field.

Name, contact details, local Rotary Club and enough information to introduce yourself showing why you are interested. We can put you in touch with your local Rotary club if required.

The completed application form, together with any additional details, is to be submitted to a sponsoring Rotary club for endorsement (cc to Bert Dorgelo). The sponsoring Rotary club is to forward the application by Friday 8th December 2023 to:
