Launceston Community Reflections 2020

Rotary Club Tamar Sunrise

The year 2020 was extraordinary. Catastrophic bushfires, a deadly pandemic, an unprecedented snow event, and even a snap destructive hailstorm, are just a few of the extreme events our community has witnessed over the past year.

We have seen how quickly society can move past a major event when faced with another. The catastrophic bushfires of early 2020 seem like a distant memory when proceeded by a pandemic. The Rotary Club of Tamar Sunrise chose to not lose sight of how the year 2020 has shaped our Launceston as a community.

Through the support of the City of Launceston Community Grants Program, pop-up sessions were held during December 2020, and the community was asked to share their memories of 2020. Captured in written, pictorial, or verbal form we learned of their experiences; what challenged them, impacted them and what were the positive experiences throughout the year. We also ask them to look to the future, outlining their aspirations for 2021.

In this short film you will learn of the community's experiences; what challenged them, affected them, and the positive experiences throughout the year. You will also hear what their aspirations are for the future.

The Club is extremely proud to have been able to provide an avenue for the community to reflect on the experiences of 2020, providing the opportunity for the community to process and make meaning of all the great (and not so great) learnings and experiences.

The events experienced by our community during 2020 have not occurred during the past 100 years, Launceston Community Reflections 2020 is a historical record for future generations.
